DART FLYSCREENS | 2019
JOSEPH BEGLEY - MACHINING AND ASSEMBLY
HENRY SLACK - MACHINE DESIGNER & MAKER
DAVE SIMPSON - ELECTRONICS AND ROBOTICS ENGINEER
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was to create a specialist coating machine for Dart Flyscreens that would streamline their production process by bringing all processes in-house. The machine needed to be able to coat their products in a variety of chemicals to deliver a high-quality product. The client required a bespoke machine that would allow them to have full control over the process, ensuring the final product met their exact requirements.
DESIGN APPROACH
The design approach started with understanding the client's needs and working alongside their team to create a semi-automated machine that could synchronise harmoniously within the production line. The machine needed to be fully enclosed, safety interlocked, and made of stainless steel, ensuring it would be durable and easy to maintain.
The machine's design was programmable to allow future adjustments, enabling the client to use it to coat alternative products if required. The machine's designer, Henry Slack, and electronics engineer, Dave Simpson, worked alongside the client to create a machine that met their exact requirements. My role included assisting the design team make, modify and assemble the machine..
The bespoke coating machine was manufactured in the UK, and quality control was implemented throughout the production process to ensure the final product met the client's requirements. The machine enabled Dart Flyscreens to streamline the production process, allowing them to take all processes in-house and FULLY control the quality of their products, ensuring the final product met their exacting standards.
